Ellie the Wienerdog Celebrates National Cookie Day!

Cookies Aren't Just for People You know! We hope you will come munch with us as we join in with as Ellie the Wienerdog celebrates National Cookie Day. And what's better than homemade cookies? (Nothing.) We are excited to try a special Ellie Cookie Recipe for pooches this most pawsome of all holidays. Peanut Butter & Banana Dog Cookies Source: A Virtual Vegan Ingredients: 180g | 2 cups rolled oats , or quick oats 85g | 1/3 cup peanut butter (make sure your peanut butter has just peanuts as an ingredient and no salt or other additives) 1 medium very-ripe banana Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit Add oats to a food processor and process until a flour like consistency Add peanut butter and banana Process until a dough ball starts to form. Add a drop or two of water if it wont come together. Usually it does without any though. Turn out onto a clean surface and roll out to about 3 mm thick Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter and place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper Place in oven and bake for 20 - 30 minutes. Watch them carefully near the end. You want them hard but keep an eye on the bottoms so they don't go too brown. Leave to cool on the tray then transfer to an air tight container. If you try this recipe, please let us know how it went! We would love to hear from you. Know someone who would love this? We would love to be introduced to them! Ellie the Wienerdog Holiday Safety Tips – Part 1

It’s that time of year again and in all the hustle and bustle, it can be easy to overlook the many dangers that can plague your furry friends. Holidays provide unique opportunities for your companions to unwittingly endanger themselves and ruin their (and your) holiday cheer. Here are Ellie the Wienerdog’s Holiday Safety Tips – one of a three-part series leading all the way up to the big day. Oh Christmas Tree, My Christmas Tree: We all love decorating the tree and seeing it light up and shine. That fascination isn’t solely a human trait, as any furry pet owner will tell you. Animals may mess with the tree at any point and you won’t always be around to watch them. Anchor your tree steadily so that you can be assured that even if your furry friends do touch the tree that it will not fall on top of them. This will also keep tree water from spilling out, which can contain fertilizers that can cause indigestion if drank. Ornaments can also be a danger, especially if they are easily broken. Glass ornaments may be considered nicer but if your pet eats a broken shard, that vet trip is sure to ruin the holidays. Lastly, tinsel is eye catching for sure, but your pets can easily suffer a blocked digestive system if they eat it. A Holly, Jolly, Christmas: Mistletoe and Holly are traditionally holiday plants, but these plants can also be poisonous for your pets. Eating Holly can cause stomach distress in the tune of diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. Mistletoe can cause the same plus cardiovascular issues. Lilies – another popular holiday plant, can cause kidney distress in cats. Best way to warn against all this is to buy fake plants or a different pet-safe kind of plant. Oh Holy Night: Candles are very much a part of holiday traditions but the risk of being tipped over by a fuzzy friend is high. If you can, “faux” candles are available that work just as well. If the real thing must be used, be on high alert with them, making sure to never leave them unattended with pets around and affix them to a stable surface or in a secure candle holder. We hope that you have uneventful holidays and that all household members are safe and warm, human and dog alike. Be sure to check back next week for the second part of our three-part series on Holiday Safety Tips. Ellie the Wienerdog wishes everyone Happy Holidays! Know someone who would love this? • Operation Santa Paws Day

Ellie the Wienerdog Celebrates Operation Santa Paws Day

Today we celebrate Operation Santa Paws, a movement introduced in 2001 in Long Beach, California by an animal lover and animal rescue advocate who wanted to set encourage people to help local rescue and shelter organizations. The winter holiday season is ripe with high levels of animal abandonment as individuals dump pups & kitties to make room for new animals as holiday gifts. It is sad and demonstrates why animal rescue and shelter groups are so important. Every day, these types of organizations put forth a large amount of time and money into rescuing and caring for innocent animals who need help. There simply aren’t enough resources to go around for all the animals who need help. Hence the necessity for public support and the need for Operation Santa Paws. How to Celebrate Operation Santa Paws Day You can celebrate this philanthropist holiday many ways, all of them beneficial: Donate funds to a rescue or shelter organization: There are endless organizations throughout the country – a simple Google search can bring up any number of contacts, but you can also go to Petfinder, which lists organizations by area. Gather supplies: You can purchase food, toys, beds and other items yourself or gather friends and family together to collect items to donate in one big pile to the organization of your choice. You can even solicit the help of some of your area’s Pet stores to see if they want to donate anything to your donation drive. Be sure to have a charity in mind to donate to, to show the stores you approach that you have a plan in mind for the donations. Curious as to what items to purchase? Feel free to peruse this list for suggestions. Donate your time to an organization: Shelters and rescue organizations need volunteers likely as much as they need supplies. Be sure to call the organization of your choice to see if they need volunteers and be ready to help in whatever capacity they need - though of course let them know if you need any accommodation for anything on your side. Pass along the info: Operation Santa Paws is still a relatively new holiday – largely unknown outside of California, where it was started. Educate your friends and family using social media – the more people know; the more people will participate! We support Operation Santa Paws and think a holiday focused on aiding rescue and shelter organizations is a lovely idea. We hope you get a chance to participate! • Did You Know King Tuts Tomb

Did You Know: King Tut’s Tomb

Did You Know King Tuts Tomb was opened on this day in 1922? British Egyptologist Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings, Egypt. Tutankhamun, nicknamed King Tut, was an Egyptian pharaoh who ruled from 1333 BCE (when he was just nine years old) until his death in 1323 BCE. After he died, Tutankhamun was mummified, according to tradition, and buried in a tomb filled with artwork, jewelry, and treasures. Shifting desert sands quickly hid the tomb, and it lay undiscovered for more than 3,000 years. In November, Carter discovered the first step of a staircase. Throughout the following days, his team exposed the whole staircase, and by the end of November, Carter had excavated an antechamber, a treasury, and the door to the tomb itself. After making a tiny breach in the door, Carter saw a room filled with gold treasures and the sarcophagus containing Tutankhamen’s mummy. Know someone who would love this?
